The Central Tibetan Administration based in Dharamsala, North India held a special prayer service at Tsug-la Khang, the main temple, near the residence of the Dalai Lama in exile on March 8, 2014 to mark the 25th anniversary of Martial Law declaration in Lhasa in 1989.

The prayer service was presided over by Tromthok Rinpoche, the abbot of Namgyal Monastery.

Hundreds of Tibetans including all the staffs of Central Tibetans Administration attended the prayer.

The day represents exile Tibetans standing in solidarity with the Tibetans martyrs who were imprisoned and tortured during the imposition of martial law in Lhasa, Tibet.

A former political prisoner, Venerable Bhagdro, shared his memories of the unrest and martial law in Tibet.

The martial law started on March 8, 1989 and continued for 13 months, during which all the foreign journalists, tourists, and diplomats were banned from the region for two years. Around 2000 Tibetans were killed during the imposition of Martial law.
