Tibetan man gets 5 Years for 2008 Protest


A Tibean man detained in connection with the protests that swept the Tibetan plateau in 2008 has been sentenced to five years in prison. According to Kirti monastery in Dharamsala, India, Tsering, 26, a native of Cha township in Ngaba county, was sentenced on November 29 by the Ngaba county Intermediate Peoples’ Court.

Tsering was arrested in April 2010 and has been in detention for all of the period prior to his sentencing last month. A former monk at Kirti monastery in Ngaba, Amdo, Tsering had allegedly taken been part in the popular protests that gripped most Tibetan regions in the spring and summer of 2008.
