Kunga Tsayang, a Tibetan writer and environmentalist from Labrang Tashikyil Monastery was released from a Chinese detention center in Lanzhou on January 12, 2014 after serving five years prison term for allegedly writing political essays criticizing China's policies towards Tibetans.

Tsayang arrived at his home in Chikdril County, Golok, Qinghai Prefecture on January 14, 2014 after a brief visit to Labrang Tashikyil Monastery.

He had worked for 'Nyenpo Yutsae Environmental Protection Association', a Tibetan conservation group which promoted educational campaign regarding the environmental degradation and the significance of endangered species conservation in Tibet.
