A New York-based Tibetan was greeted by thousands of Tibetan refugees as he arrived in Dharamsala by motorcycle Thursday after completing over 35,000 miles traveling through 22 countries on a “Free Tibet World tour."
Chanting slogans demanding that China free Tibet, Tibetans cheered for Lhakpa Tsering when he reached his final destination Dharmsala, where the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has been living in exile since 1959.
Tsering, 41 was escorted to Tibetan Children's Village School where he was brought up as an orphan 40 years ago.
"I thought somebody had to make Tibetan people's voice heard. I decided to go around the world telling people about our plight," Tsering said.
He added that his bike rally was a fulfilling tour as he was successful in increasing awareness of the Chinese occupation of Tibet.
Tsering set out from New York on March 10 last year — the 50th anniversary of a failed 1959 Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule — after new anti-government riots erupted in Tibet.
