Dorjee Khandu Cremated in Monpa Tradition

Former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Dorjee Khandu, 56, who died in a helicopter accident was cremated on Tuesday at Shebdung, on the outskirts of Tawang.

Khandu’s funeral was performed as per Monpa traditions and with state honors which included funeral march by various contingents of state police and firing of several rounds into the air as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

About 10,000 people, including a minister of religion and culture of the Tibetan government in exile from Dharamshala attended the funeral to pay their respects to the late leader.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Saturday expressed grief over the death of Khandu.

Dorjee Khandu along with 4 of his colleagues died in a tragic helicopter accident near Tawang on April 30.
