Hundreds of Tibetans and supporters held candlelight vigil at Gaden Jhangtse Monastery Hall in South India to honor Tibetans who have carried out self-immolation protests.

Mundgod-based Students for a Free Tibet, organizer of the candlelight vigil, said the people were gathered in solidarity with the Tibetans who have self-immolated in a protest against China's repression and occupation of Tibet.

“With Lobsang Jamyang, we have now witnessed the 17th case of self-immolation since the first immolation by Tabey in February 2009,” said Sonam Tenzin, Mundgod coordinator of Students for Free Tibet.

“The series of protests in Ngaba, Kardze and Golok are clear indication of China’s height of repression and Tibetans’ desire for freedom," said Tenzin.
