First Global Tibetan Professionals Summit Commences in Dharamsala

90 Tibetan professionals have gathered at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamsala for the first Global Tibetan Professionals Summit organized by the New Delhi-based Empowering the Vision.

The summit which runs from September 6-8 will discuss ways to “harness the power of professionalism and develop of shared vision to strengthen the Tibetan community in exile”.

Speaking at the opening session of the three-day summit on Monday, the Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in exile Samdhong Rinpoche described the ideal characteristic of a professional as someone who dedicates his/her service for the well being of other people and community development and not only for his/her own livelihood.

In his inaugural address, Tempa Tsering, Chief Representative of the Dalai Lama in Delhi, spoke about “the collective efforts made by the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the organizers in bringing together Tibetan professionals to engage them in the community development”.

The participants of the summit will discuss topics related to education, public health, community development and international relations with different Central Tibetan Administration Departments.

The key action plans adopted during the meeting would be presented to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration, the organisers said.

A Global Tibetan Professionals Network (GTPN) was initiated by ENVISION in 2008 with support from Bureau Office of the Dalai Lama in New Delhi to provide a platform for networking and as a medium to facilitate Tibetan professionals' engagement with their communities.
