The election commission held a press conference today to announce the first five candidates from the preliminary election which took place on February 17, 2014.
Mr. Jamphel Choesang, the Election Commissioner said, due to no eligible voters in Bhutan, the election took place only in Nepal and India. He said that only 31.5% of voters who have registered turned out for the election.
The five candidates were as follows: Tashi Dhondup with 347 votes, Lukar Jam with 194 votes, Tsangyang Gyatso 144 votes, Karma Gelek 107 votes, and Totsik Chodak 71 votes.
The candidates are expected to inform the Election Commission whether they are willing to sit for the final election within 45 days.
The final election for the Domey Chithu is scheduled to take place on June 9, 2014 and the results will be announced on June 20, 2014.
