Tibetans in Delhi felicitated Shri Ravi Thakur, member of Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh State and a staunch supporter of Tibet on being appointed as the Vice Chairman of the National Commission for Schedule Tribes, Government of India, in New Delhi on December 14, 2013.
The felicitation ceremony was presided over by Shri V Krishna Chandra Deo, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Panchayati Raj, Government of India.
Also present were Shri G S Bali, Minister of Transport and Food Supplies, Government of Himachal Pradesh; Former Union Minister of Transport, Shri P Namgyal; Member of Indian Parliament, Shri Birendra Choudhery from Himachal, Rev. Lochen Tulku, and Lama Lobzang.
Shri Ravi Thakur belonged to Lahaul [Garsha] in Himachal. He was initially appointed as a member and later promoted to the position of Vice Chairman of the National Commission for Schedule Tribe by the Government of India.
"The Office of Commission helps us Tibetans to deal with government offices of states and centre. The recommendation letters given by this office makes things easier and very helpful, " says Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok.
