The Dalai Lama has expressed his condolences at the recent loss of lives and devastation caused by the Cyclone Phailin in Orissa state of India on Saturday, October 12, 2013 where fourteen people were killed in storm-related incidents.

“Normalcy will come back soon. Our primary responsibility was to protect the valuable lives of our citizens. I think we have been successful in minimizing the loss of precious lives,” said Naveen Patnaik, Orissa Chief Minister.

Chonor Samdup, chief of Orissa Tibetan settlement tells VOA Tibetan that the storm has destroyed the crop of the Tibetan settlers who are settled in Berhampur district of Orissa, although no casualties were reported in the Tibetan settlement.

The Dalai Lama is currently in Mexico City as part of a three nation tour to the United States, Mexico, and Poland.
