Dalai Lama Meets Tibetans from Tibet in Sarnath

The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama held special audience with some 1700 Tibetans who travelled from Tibet for the 5-day teachings in Varanasi on Sunday.

The Dalai Lama reassured that he would not abandon the responsibility of leading the Tibetan people in reference to his recent statement about taking complete retirement.

The Tibetan leader emphasized the importance of the Tibetan language for the survival of Tibetan identity. He ecouraged adopting vegetarinism and also urged Tibetans in Tibet not to resort to gambling and vagabondage.

The Buddhist leader took part in the valedictory function of the four-day 'Tenggyur Translation Conference: In the tradition of the 17 Pandits of Nalanda', organised by the CUTS and American Institute of Buddhist Studies at Columbia University last week

The Dalai Lama taught Shantideva’s A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life & Kamalashila’s The Middling States of Meditation from January 12-16.

The Tibetan leader will return to Dharamsala on Wednesday.
