Department of Home of the Central Tibetan Administration based in Dharamsala has issued an urgent appeal to all the Tibetans and supporters worldwide to help the cyclone Phailin Victims.
In an interview with VOA, Chime Rinzin, the additional secretary of Department of Home shared the ground reality they found after an assesment survey conducted with some Indian specialists. He said that Tibetans settled in Orissa has lost more than 90% of the agro crops out of 1240 acres of land. They estimated the loss to be more than 200 lakh rupees, calculating each acre of land as fifteen thousand rupees.
"Out of six hundred Tibetan families living in Orissa Tibetan settlement, more than a hundred rely on the agriculture as their primary source of income, therefore, are suffering a great loss," said Rinzin.
"The settlement officer of Orissa and Department of Home have so far received Rs. 15 lakh as donations from NGOs and individuals. They will continue to collect the relief fund till the end of March, and then distribute the amount as per requirement," further added Rinzin.
