Chinese Delegates Leave International Buddhist Event to Protest Tibetan Presence


17 Chinese delegates attending a 5-day World Fellowship Buddhist conference in South Korea returned home to protest Tibetan participation in the conference.

The meeting of around 320 prominent international Buddhists from 24 countries gathered on Tuesday in Yeosu. Former prime minister of the Tibetan government in exile Samdhong Rinpoche was one of the three representatives from Tibetan Buddhist community to attend the meeting.

The Chinese delegation reportedly threatened to boycott the meeting unless the Tibetans were turned away, before returning back to China.
