China's most popular blogger, known as Han Han, has shut down his widely read magazine after just one issue.
Chinese media reported that staff at the magazine, called Party, were dismissed on Sunday. Editors at the magazine confirmed their dismissal but offered no explanation for the shutdown.
Han, an amateur race car driver who became wildly popular with his witty criticisms of Chinese official policies on his blog, claims to have sold 1.5 million copies of the magazine's 128-page debut issue in July. The issue featured essays, poetry and commentary as well as an excerpt from a novel by Han.
However, the publication has been troubled by difficulty in finding a publisher willing to handle its controversial content and by the costs of maintaining a large editorial staff.
