Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is in China for a visit aimed at strengthening trade ties between the two nations.

Mr. Harper arrived in China Tuesday, before meeting Wednesday in Beijing with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to sign a series of agreements.

The Canadian leader is seeking to increase oil sales to China.

Canada wants to diversify its oil exports away from the United States, the largest importer of Canadian energy.

During his visit, Mr. Harper plans to also meet with China's President Hu Jintao and top Chinese officials.
