5th All India Annual Tibetan Student Conference Ends Today

More than 90 Tibetan delegates from 25 different educational institutions across India took part in the 5th All India Annual Conference for Tibetan College Students at the Sarah College for Higher Tibetan Studies near Dharamsala from January 7 to 10.

Chief Coordinator Lungtok said the underlying purpose of holding the conference is to bring together Tibetan college students across India to understand their role in the Tibetan freedom movement.

The Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche, the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje and the Deputy Speaker Dolma Gyari of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile addressed the participants at the conference’s inauguration on Friday.

The meeting honored Tashi Rabten from Tibet’s Ngaba region, a student from Northwestern Minorities University in Lanzhou, who was arrested on April 6, 2010 for writing articles about the 2008 Tibetan protest movement in a local Tibetan literary magazine Shar Dungri (Eastern Snow Moutnain).
