Two young Tibetan monks set themselves on fire Monday in an attempted self-immolation at Kirti Monastery in Ngaba County of Southern province in China.
The monks called for religious freedom and shouted "long live the Dalai Lama" before setting themselves on fire according to rights groups.
Lobsang Kalsang, one of the monks was the younger brother of Lobsang Phuntsog, 21, who self immolated himself in March on the third anniversary of violent crackdown in Ngaba.
Last month, China jailed three monks for "instigating and assisting" Phuntsog burn himself to death.
Tensions have bristled in eastern Tibet since the March protest and the later disappearance of some 300 monks whom witnesses said were rounded up by authorities and taken to undisclosed locations. Beijing acknowledged the disappearances in June, saying the detained monks were undergoing "legal education."
