Dalai Lama Receives Amnesty International Human Rights Award ‎


Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama was presented "Shine a Light on Human Rights" award from Amnesty International Wednesday morning.

Amnesty International USA executive director Larry Cox said the award is to honor the Dalai Lama's lifelong commitment to social justice and human rights.

"He has worked for the cause of freedom and human rights for over 50 years; Amnesty International also celebrates 50 years of human rights work this month," said Cox.

In his speech, the Dalai Lama, called for greater support for human rights, and he spoke on the need for freedom in Tibet and the importance of religious tolerance.

The Dalai Lama later took questions from the audience and talked about the importance of protecting people engaged in human rights work and the need for freedom of information, expression, and religion throughout the world.
