Three members of the Tibetan Youth Congress have begun a hunger strike outside United Nations headquarters in New York, to protest continuing human rights violations in their homeland.
The three began their protest Friday morning, vowing to continue indefinitely. Their organization issued a statement saying the strikers are deeply concerned that the international community has failed to end abuses committed by authorities in Tibet.
They urged the United Nations Human Rights Commission now meeting in Geneva to adopt a resolution appointing a special envoy to monitor and investigate the situation in Tibet. The strikers also demanded that China free all Tibetan political prisoners.
