Tibetan exiled government officials and the public observed the 15th anniversary of Chinese imposition of martial law in Lhasa March 8, 1989 following a series of pro-independence demonstrations. During those demonstrations Chinese armed police shot at protestors and many were killed and hundreds were arrested and imprisoned. Dharmsala gathering paid tribute to those who died for their country and to those who suffered in the prisons.
