More than 200 French members of the Parliament Boycott Hu’s Speech and Join Tibetan and Rights Groups Protest - 2004-01-29

More than 200 French members of the Parliament boycotted Chinese President Hu Jintao’s speech at the parliament Tuesday in Paris and joined the demonstrations of Tibetan and other human rights groups.

The members of the Parliament say that a leader of a totalitarian country should not be invited to the parliament and address the members. They have no desire to hear him because of China’s poor human rights record. Tibetans and pother human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and doctors without borders protested China’s continuing human rights abuses in Tibet and in China.
