Dharmsala Regrets Russia’s Denial of Visa to Dalai Lama - 2003-09-25

Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharmsala expressed regret for the Russian government’s denial of visa to the Dalai Lama who was invited to visit republic of Kalmykia by its president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov last month. The exiled government’s spokesman Mr. Thubten Samphel said by denying the visa to the Dalai Lama, the Russian government totally ignores the wishes and the aspiration of the Buddhist in Kalmykia. Mr. Samphel said the president of Kalmykia visited Dharmsala several times an extended invitation to the Dalai Lama.
