Dalai Lama Draws Massive Crowd to Central Park - 2003-09-22

Tibetan staffer Namgyal Shastri reported that more than tens of thousands people attended the Dalai Lama’s talk at Central Park on Sunday. Thousands of people began to flood the Park from the early morning hours and by the time the Tibetan leader began speaking at noon there was still a line stretching 10 blocks down Fifth Avenue of people trying to get in. The Dalai Lama urged people to develop human values such as love, compassion, altruism and tolerance. He said development of inner strength must go side by side with that of material progress. He also said that in the modern world, warfare is outdated method of resolving conflicts; dialogue should the means of resolving problems.
