Authorities in Tibet Restrict Number of Visitors to the Potala - 2003-08-18

Tibetan stringer Gedun Rinchen reported that the authorities in Tibet have restricted daily visitors to the Potala, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital. The number of visitors allowed to the Potala is 850 per day. The authorities say too many visitors at the same time are not only harmful to the fragile structure of the palace, but also is dangerous for the safety of the visitors.
