A High Ranking Tibetan Lama Urges Local Tibetans to Preserve their Culture - 2003-07-31

Tibetan Service staff Gyaltsen Tsering reported that Sakya Trizen, head of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism, urged yesterday to local Tibetans in the Washington, Maryland and Virginia States to preserve their culture, in particular the Tibetan language. He said that it would be a pity if a Tibetan could not read or write Tibetan; therefore, it is very important for Tibetans to learn their language and knowing the language would facilitate studying Tibetan Buddhism which is the essence of Tibetan culture. He also said that one of the often expressed advises of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was to urge the Tibetans from all three regions of Tibet to be united and treat one another as your brothers and sisters. Tibetans should set a good example for others.
