China Begins Work on Lhasa Railway Station - 2003-07-08

China has started construction of the first railway station in Lhasa at a cost of 12 million US dollars (100 million yuan). Construction of the railway station in Lhasa began on Saturday, bring up to full speed its work on the line linking Lhasa and Xining, capital of neighboring Qinghai province. The construction of the railway line, Tibet’s first, has been controversial. Xinhua reports that the Lhasa Railway Station will have a total of seven lines and three platforms upon its completion, expected in 2007.
