Dalai Lama Cites Gandhi as Exemplary Person the World Respects - 2003-06-23

Tibetan stringer Tsering Migmar reported that the Dalai Lama who was giving Buddhist teachings in Ladakh cited Mahatma Gandhi as an exemplary person who devoted his entire life for the benefit others and who led a simple life. Yet he commands respects and devotion all over the world because he practiced compassion and love and used his education for the benefit other human beings. On the other hand, the Dalai Lama said that leaders like Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tse-tung, who misused their knowledge to oppress and torture people, do not command respect, but hatred and fear. Therefore, the Tibetan leader said, the practice of love and compassion are very important human values that every human being must practice.
