Nepal to open two Trading Posts on Tibet Border - 2003-06-17


Tibetan stringer Gedun Rinchen reported that Nepal plans to open two trading posts on the border of Tibet. One of the two is according news reports is Mustang area. This is area has a lot of history besides being a traditional trading post. In the early 1960s Mustang was a base for the Tibetan resistance movement, funded by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. From this base, the Tibetan guerrillas launched a series of attacks on Chinese military posts in Tibet. The base was dismantled after President Nixon’s historic visit to China.
