China SARS  Virus Spreads Further - 2003-05-01

As the SARS virus spreads further, there have now been more than 5,000 SARS cases world-wide. The Chinese government has adopted a series of measures to prevent the spread of the virus. However, there are many loopholes in the government’s efforts to control the population flow, as many students and workers flee Beijing for their hometowns in the provinces. On April 29, China’s health ministry reported that there were 202 new cases of SARS, and 9 new SARS deaths. The situation in Beijing is also worsening, and nearly 8,000 people have been quarantined there.
