Refugees Say Tibetan Farmers Face Hardship - 2003-04-16

Despite China’s claims of great economic improvements in Tibet, Tibetan farmers are “in dire straits” in eastern Tibet because of a lack of sufficient land for each farming family and also a shortage of cash. Recent arrivals from Tibet say, because of the economic crunch, the farmers are not able to send their children to schools; the school fee is too high for a poor farmer to pay. So they choose to come to India to send their children to Tibetan refugee schools.
