Dalai Lama Talks about the Essence of Buddhism - 2003-04-14

Tibetan stringer Tsering Mgimar reported that the Dalai Lama addressed thousands of Tibetan students and the public in Musoorrie at a public stadium. The Dalai Lama says that the essence of Tibetan Buddhism is practice of compassion and kindness. He says in general when Tibetans think of practicing religion, they think of inviting monks to pray, and recitation of prayer books, doing prostration and so forth. These are not that important, says the Dalai Lama, the most important thing is practice of religion in your mind, i.e., practice of compassion and kindness. The Dalai Lama returns to Dharmsala today.
