Fleeing Tibetans Face Hardship on their way to Nepal - 2003-01-21

A group of Tibetan refugees have arrived Katmandu, Nepal, after traveling about 27 days from Lhasa, Tibet. These Tibetans did not have the exit permit from the Chinese authorities. The group also includes young children who were sent by their parents to be admitted to Tibetan refugee schools in India. To avoid being detected by Chinese authorities, the group had to take Dangerous routes and suffered from severe cold weather. The children fared worse than the older ones who also suffered from frostbites.
