The Dalai Lama has begun three-day preliminary teachings of the Kalachakra, i.e., 37 Practices of Bodhisattva and Light of the Path to Enlightenment. The Tibetan leader urged his disciples to refrain from eating meat during the Kalachakra initiation.
More than 100, 000 people have assembled for the teachings and if all of them ate meat that would demand more meat, and consequently more animals would be killed. Tight security arrangements have been made for the 12 days of the Kalachakra teachings, ending on January 22. The Gaya policecheif said two paramilitary contingents have been deployed in addition to Bihar Armed police platoons patrolling the town.
