Rights Group Criticizes China’s death Sentences for Two Tibetans - 2002-12-09

Amnesty International and Human Rights in China (HRIC) Saturday slammed death sentences handed down to two Tibetans an demanded retrial. In separate faxed statements sent to news agencies in Beijing, the two groups said the trial of Tenzin Delek and Lobsang Thondup were closed and secretive and expressed concern that they had been tortured into confessing. The pleas join a growing chorus urging the global community and the UN Human Rights Commission to intervene on behalf of the two Tibetan Buddhists.
