Taiwan on Tuesday turned down a call from parliamentarians for direct, chartered flights to China, citing national security considerations. But the Mainland Affairs Council, which formulates Taiwan’s China policy, said the government would permit “indirect” flights during the lucrative Lunar New Year Festival early next year.
