President Bush Signs Tibet Policy Act - 2002-10-03


President Bush signed the Tibet Policy Act into law tuesday as part of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act for Fiscal Years 2002 and 2003. “With this move the US government has put the force of law behind its longstanding support for the welfare of the Tibetan people and a negotiated solution for Tibet,” said Marybeth Marky, US Executive Director for ICT.(International Campaign for Tibet) The bill also states that “it is the policy of the United States to support economic development, cultural preservation, health care and education and environmental sustainability for Tibetans inside Tibet.”
