Tawang Readies To Welcome Dalai Lama བོད་སྐད།


People of Mon Tawang, mostly Bhuddhist, in the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh are anxiously waiting for the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet. The 5-day visit will start from 8th of November 2009.

"We are grateful to the kindness of His Holiness for making a visit to Tawang. Most of us are unable to go down to have an audience with His Holiness due to many reasons. We are fortunate and anxiously waiting for this visit." says Jamyang Norbu from Padmakhar village who has come to receive teachings from His Holiness.

"The people of Mon Tawang have great faith and respect for His Holiness. They are absolutely exited to have His Holiness here." says Abbot of Tawang Monastery, Guru Tulku.

More than 30,000 people are expected to gather at Tawang to receive teachings from His Holiness including those from east Bhutan.

Mostly inhabited by Monpa tribes, Tawang district of Arunachal has population of around 40,000 It has Bhutan on the west and south, and Tibet on the north. Tsona Dzong of Tibet and Tawang is divided by Bumla Pass which is half day’s journey by foot from Tawang.
