China Tells Tibetans to Remove Children from Exile-Run Schools བོད་སྐད།

Chinese authorities have called on Tibetans to remove their children from schools run by Tibetan exiles. Communist Party members and government officials in Tibet could lose their positions if they fail to comply.

A report published on a government-run Web site (chinatibetnews.com) Tuesday said the schools in India offer free tuition, housing and food to attract Tibetan students. The report accuses the schools of preparing children for separatist activities inside Tibet.

An Indian-based exile group says 13 Communist Party members in Lhasa have been expelled for their involvement in protests in the Tibetan capital in March.

The Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy says the new rule raises concerns about the welfare of Tibetan children who have risked their lives to cross the Himalayas to study in India.
