From the initial harsh response to the 15 monks who carried out a peaceful Protest in Lhasa on March 10, to the more recent accusation that the Dalai Lama instigated the uprisings that have taken place across Tibet, Beijing’s post March 10 actions and pronouncements have left most people disbelieving or disapproving of them. To the allegation that the Dalai Lama was behind some of the violence that occurred in Lhasa on March 14, the US State department immediately responded by saying that the Dalai Lama was a ‘man of peace’.

Is Beijing planning on carrying out a prolonged and systematic crackdown long after the Olympics are over by making these charges, or is their plan directed at painting the Tibetans as a ‘terror threat’ and thus undermine the non-violent nature of the Tibetan struggle in the eyes of the international community.
