The Tibetan Government in Exile (TGIE) observed the 47th anniversary of Tibetan Democracy Day on September 2, 2007, marking the Dalai Lama's introduction of democratic systems to the Tibetan Government in Exile in 1960. The nature of how democratic reforms were introduced to the TGIE is unique, and stands in stark contrast to that of most other governments, where the society has usually had to fight for the reforms.
