European Parliament to Adopt Resolution on China-Tibet Talks

The European Parliament is scheduled to adopt a resolution on Tibet titled, "Dialogue between the Chinese Government and envoys of the Dalai Lama. The resolution is expected to have a swift passage with the backing from the majority of the political parties represented in the 785 members of the the EP. Sources say the Tibet resolution will urge the Chinese leadership and the Dalai Lama to continue their present talks and calls upon the European Union to elaborate the manner by which the EU could facilitate progress towards a peaceful and negotiated solution of the Tibet issue. The resolution is expected to reiterate the Parliament's earlier calls for the appointment of an EU Special Representative for Tibet.
As the EP is scheduled to adopt a resolution on Tibet, the Chinese Mission to the EU had released a news bulletin and publicly acknowledged that the Chinese Govt. had received representatives of the Dalai Lama. The 3-page news bulletin hoped the members of the EP will refrain from listening to one side. The Chinese government opposes to internationalization of Tibet issue, let alone accept the appointment of the so-called "Tibet Affairs Representative."
