Dalai Lama to Speak at California Women's Conference Today

Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is speaking at a women's conference in the western U.S. state of California Tuesday.

Maria Shriver, wife of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, is hosting the annual one-day event. Organizers say it is the first time the Dalai Lama has ever addressed a women's conference.

Organizers also say the conference is designed to inspire women to become architects of change, on a local or national level. In addition to Shriver and Governor Schwarzenegger, other speakers and panelists include U.S. homemaking and media executive Martha Stewart, Britain's Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, U.S. journalists Maureen Dowd and Anna Quindlen, and Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson.

Shriver invited the Dalai Lama to speak at her signature conference during a trip to India earlier this year. The Tibetan spiritual leader has been touring Canada and the United States since early September.
