Talk to VOA:The Congressional Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama

On September 13, the US House of Representatives passed a bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama. On this week's Tibetan TV call-in show, the Dalai Lama's Special Envoy, Mr. Lodi Gyari, joins our host Tseten Chodon to discuss the processes that led up to the bipartisan awarding of the nation's highest civilian honor. Mr. Gyari discuss the possible impact on the Dalai Lama's efforts to engage in dialogue with Chinese Government.

The program also includes three related packages, the debate on the House floor of the bill cosponsored by 387 House members, a brief history of the Congressional Gold Medal and some of the previous recipients and the group of young Tibetan-Americans who, a few months ago, lobbied their congressional representatives to support the awarding of the Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama.
