The Incumbent Tibetan Prime Minster in Exile Win More than 82 Percent of Votes in Primary Election


The incumbent Kalon Samdhong Rinpoche had 82.66% of votes in the preliminary round of elctions held last month for the post of next Kalon Tripa.

This is the second time that the Tibetan diaspora exile community are voting for the post of directly elected Kalon Tripa. The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr.Tashi Phuntsok says that as per the rules of election he is declaring the names of six nominees according to the numbers of votes they each recieved. The difference of percentage of votes between the first nominee and the second nominee is around 76%.

It is also reported that around 423 votes from Bhandara Tibetan settlement was voided due to irregularities in the ballot paper, buy overall around 51.42% of the voters took part in the preliminary round.
