Dalai Lama’s  Envoys Arrive in China for Talks on Tibet


Dalai Lama’s envoys have arrived in Beijing today for talks on Tibetan issue.

In a press statement issued by the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharmsala, India, says, “Mr. Lodi Gyari, accompanied by Mr. Kelsang Gyaltsen and senior aides, arrived in China today for the fifth round of talks on the Tibetan issue.”

The Dalai Lama’s Private Secretary Kasur Tenzin Geyche Tethong says, “His Holiness is pleased that the present round of talks, which began in 2002, is the longest process of continued interaction that we have had with the leadership in Beijing.”

Mr. Thubten Samphel, spokesman for the Tibetan government-in-exile, Dharmsala, India, says that the previous round of talks with the Chinese in Bern, Switzerland, last year was “very intensive, frank discussion,” and that “gives us hope that these contacts will deepen and eventually lead to a peaceful settlement of the issue of Tibet.”
