A human rights group says China has sentenced a group of five Tibetan monks and nuns to up to three years in prison for distributing protest literature.
The London-based Free Tibet Campaign says three nuns and two monks were arrested last May in northwest China's Gansu province.
The campaign says the five were arrested after they passed out letters calling for Tibetan independence from China and reportedly also suggested the cancellation of the 2008 Beijing Olympic games.
Free Tibet says the monks and nuns received jail sentences ranging from 18 months to three years.
Chinese troops occupied Tibet in 1950. International rights groups have been critical of China's suppression of religious freedom and other human rights in the region.
