A Tibetan immigrant to the United States has been killed in combat in Iraq.
The Pentagon says 19-year-old Lance Corporal Tenzin Dengkhim died Saturday as a result of hostile action in Iraq's Anbar province.
A family friend told The Washington Post the Dengkhim family came to the United States as part of a relocation project approved by Congress in the 1990s. Lance Corporal Dengkhim joined the Marines in September 2003 and had won two service medals.
Family members gathered Monday to mourn at the family home in a northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C.
