A city in the state of California, United States has adopted a resolution on Tibet that calls on China to respect Tibetan people’s right to self-determination, safeguard Tibet’s human rights, and the resumption of dialogue with the Dalai Lama or his representatives.

The unanimous resolution adopted by the Berkeley City Council on February 14 has also made the decision to raise the Tibetan national flag on the city flagpole on the occasion 58th Tibetan National Uprising day that falls on March 10, 2017.

Kalsang Phuntsok, President of the Tibetan Association of Northern California(TANC) tells VOA that this is the 21st time that Berkeley City Council has decided to raise the Tibetan flag on the occasion of Tibetan National Uprising day and for that, they are very grateful to the Council members and the people of Berkeley for their continued support for Tibet.

Phuntsok adds that other cities in California such as San Francisco and Richmond has also adopted similar resolutions.
