The Dharamsala based freedom organization Gu-chu-sum, formed by ex-political prisoners from Tibet held its seventh general body meeting and board elections this week. Gu-chu-sum’s new president is Namgyal Dolkar Lhagyari, a current member of the Exile Tibetan Parliament and the first woman to head the Tibetan freedom movement group. Lhagyari’s father, who traces his ancestry back to Tibet’s ancient royal family, was heavily persecuted by the Chinese after the fall of the Tibetan government in 1959 and was imprisoned for over 20 years.
