President Obama Calls for Meaningful Dialogue to Resolve Sino-Tibetan Problem

The 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet met with the United States President Barack Obama at the White House around 10.30am on June 15, 2016.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Press Secretary, the Dalai Lama and Obama discussed Tibet's situation, where the latter emphasized his strong support for human rights of the Tibetan people and preservation of Tibetan culture, religion, and language. The Dalai Lama was also lauded for his commitment to peace, non-violence, and the 'Middle Way Approach' to solve the Tibetan issue.

"The President encouraged meaningful and direct dialogue between the Dalai Lama and his representatives with Chinese authorities to lower tensions and resolve differences," the statement further added.

The two also discussed the significance of climate change awareness, especially in reference to Tibet's melting glaciers and environmental challenges faced on the Tibetan plateau.
